WELCOME SUMMER !

Summer in the UK, so far, has been extremely wet!   However, pictures of floods are not very cheerful, but……….

ABSTRACTS

<a href=”http://writteninc.blogspot.com/search/label/Thematic%20Photographic”> Carmi’s Challenge this week is ABSTRACTS</a>

If you go to the link you will see Carmi’s great photo, plus others who have taken up the challenge.

I find that getting in close to things can produce some wonderful abstract patterns.

This is not some dreadful disease, but weathering on an old upturned boat.

Taking things in Black and White can give an abstract air.   This is a close up of some very interesting fungus on a tree trunk.

Reflections make wonderful patterns, which change as wind blows the ripples.

IN THE BLUES

Carmi has challenged us this week to show our blue photos. If you go to the link, you will see very many different interpretations. The true blue of this primula caught my eye last Spring - it is really intense. Grape Hyacinths (Muscari) always supply me with a lovely blue edge to my patio in the spring. A lovely bright blue cushion cover. And of course, I couldn't resist yet another photo of the wonderful Svalbard mountains!

THE NATURAL WORLD

Carmi's Theme this week is THE NATURAL WORLD. If you follow that link you will see some fantastic photos taken by Carmi and others who have accepted his Photographic challenge. I can't compete with the wilderness wonders posted so have concentrated on the smaller wonders Having said all that, these Arctic Mountains are definitely a wilderness place! Taken from our cruise ship of the Svalbard coast, 78 degrees North. I love water, and this waterfall was spectacular. Taken from the Geiranger Fjord, Norway. Icy water, I love the light effects. Another water shapes. Caused by a diving coot. He's still under there somewhere! And lastly, a peaceful ripple of water on a Welsh shore in Anglesey.

FAR FROM HOME

Carmi's Challenge this week is "FAR FROM HOME". I thought Longyearbyen, in Svalbard (Spitzbergen) at 78 degrees north, was about as far from home as I could get, going north! The little town was warm and friendly, and the sun was lovely the day we went there on our cruise, but if you got in the wind, you knew you were in the Arctic! That's the summer snow, with a glacier in the distance.
However, this year we went far from home to a much warmer clime - this is the Jacaranda trees blooming in Funchal, in Madeira.
And this is the view from the top of the Cathedral in Gran Canaria. Long way from anything, really, especially to those of us who are a bit freaked out by heights!!

LOOKING UP

Carmi's Photographic Challenge this week is LOOKING UP
The Monument here is known as the Marquess of Anglesey's Column, and stands near where the Menai Bridge joins the Isle of Anglesey to mainland Wales. Mr. G went up there three or four years ago when we were on holiday. I admired the view from the hill the monument stands on!
Of course, had he looked DOWN, he might have seen our rather fed-up dog! Although I don't think looking down was an option right up there!

TREES AND BUSHES

Just got into Carmi's Challenge in time! The first are the roots of a venerable beech tree, the second is a winter willow hanging over the lake in the fog. Have loads of other trees and bushes, as I love taking photos of them, but you'd all be reading them all day if I published them.
