FAR FROM HOME

Carmi's Challenge this week is "FAR FROM HOME". I thought Longyearbyen, in Svalbard (Spitzbergen) at 78 degrees north, was about as far from home as I could get, going north! The little town was warm and friendly, and the sun was lovely the day we went there on our cruise, but if you got in the wind, you knew you were in the Arctic! That's the summer snow, with a glacier in the distance.
However, this year we went far from home to a much warmer clime - this is the Jacaranda trees blooming in Funchal, in Madeira.
And this is the view from the top of the Cathedral in Gran Canaria. Long way from anything, really, especially to those of us who are a bit freaked out by heights!!

LOOKING UP

Carmi's Photographic Challenge this week is LOOKING UP
The Monument here is known as the Marquess of Anglesey's Column, and stands near where the Menai Bridge joins the Isle of Anglesey to mainland Wales. Mr. G went up there three or four years ago when we were on holiday. I admired the view from the hill the monument stands on!
Of course, had he looked DOWN, he might have seen our rather fed-up dog! Although I don't think looking down was an option right up there!

TREES AND BUSHES

Just got into Carmi's Challenge in time! The first are the roots of a venerable beech tree, the second is a winter willow hanging over the lake in the fog. Have loads of other trees and bushes, as I love taking photos of them, but you'd all be reading them all day if I published them.
